This is the effects of wind erosion.  The cliff faces the sea, which has a shingle beach, and whatever the weather is like anywhere else in this town, this spot is windy.  There are more mountains and hills in this area, all sculpted by the wind into beautiful and grotesque shapes.

The car and people are there to give you, the viewer, a an idea of the scale.

Looks like all the sandstone buildings in Glasgow which are eroding away just like this- of course Edinburgh is a MUCH nicer place all together!
Sheila, in Spain mostly: Never been to Glasgow, and to Edinburgh only once - it was pouring with rain and we couldn't find anywhere to stay for the night. My great-grandfather came from Edinburgh, lived in Gibraltar and married a Spanish woman. Perhaps that explains my mixed-up-ness!
