Mesa Roldan, in the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, Almeria, Spain.
Part 7 -what else is at the top
Rocks! Rocks and more rocks, big ones, little ones, chippings, and dust. Smooth ones, pitted ones, all sorts of shapes and colours. But even in this inhospitable landscape, constantly torn by wind and baked by sun, plants will find a roothold, as I said in Part 5, and there is plenty to see and admire if you just take the time to look down.
The park is an area of natural beauty of all kinds, from harsh and dramatic to soft and gentle. It covers a very large area. This is just one small part of it, but it is 10 minutes drive from where we live (from front door to car park) and is one of our favourite places for feeling the wind, admiring the views, studying the rocks and plants, and even just sitting. A place of peace and tranquility, where nature is the boss.
