Mesa Roldan, in the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, Almeria, Spain.
Part 4 - at the top, The Fort, or Torre de Mesa Roldan
The fort has the two towers shown here, while the other side is rounded. This way lookouts had 360 degree vision. And could watch the pirates, invaders and troops below battling it out. They were too high up to be effective with their weapons, and too far away to for couriers and messengers to be any use. Even though the towers are falling into disrepair, its still an impressive looking place and can be seen miles away.
The park is an area of natural beauty of all kinds, from harsh and dramatic to soft and gentle. It covers a very large area. This is just one small part of it, but it is 10 minutes drive from where we live (from front door to car park) and is one of our favourite places for feeling the wind, admiring the views, studying the rocks and plants, and even just sitting. A place of peace and tranquility, where nature is the boss.
