Mesa Roldan, in the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, Almeria, Spain

Part 1 - The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse is about 3/4 of the way up the mountain. You should park the car here and walk the rest of the way up. A few reckless drivers do drive all the way, but the road is rough and potholed - not good for the car - and those people rarely stay long at the top. They miss the best bits - the views, the flowers and even butterflies and occasional reptiles.

The park is an area of natural beauty of all kinds, from harsh and dramatic to soft and gentle. It covers a very large area. This is just one small part of it, but it is 10 minutes drive from where we live (from front door to car park) and is one of our favourite places for feeling the wind, admiring the views, studying the rocks and plants, and even just sitting. A place of peace and tranquility, where nature is the boss.

Sheila this suffers from not being straight, and I think it would be worth a crop to get rid of the car door bottom left which is distracting.
Sheila, in Spain mostly: Hi Bill, thanks for the comment. I accept your point about being not quite straight. I also tried cropping the car door out, but with the rotation and cropping so much has to come off that the picture looks quite different and the feeling of space and distance disappears completely. Thanks for the advice.
