Mesa Roldan, in the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, Almeria, Spain.
Part 8 - Its a long way down.
This view is from behind the fort . The white cliffs at the closest point are those of a seaside village called Aqua Amarga. The cliffs follow the coast from there and the whole coastline is dotted with secluded sandy bays with gentle sea. Some bays are only accessible with a 4x4 or by doing a very long hike - some even need the 4x4 AND a hike.
This is (almost) unspoilt nature. Right of centre you can see a large house - someone really wanted to get away from it all.
The park is an area of natural beauty of all kinds, from harsh and dramatic to soft and gentle. It covers a very large area. This is just one small part of it, but it is 10 minutes drive from where we live (from front door to car park) and is one of our favourite places for feeling the wind, admiring the views, studying the rocks and plants, and even just sitting. A place of peace and tranquility, where nature is the boss.
