This is the entrance to a mansion in Rochester, Kent. The house was two medieval buildings which were combined in the late 16th or early 17th century to create a mansion house. It has been restored and refurnished in its original style, with as many items original to the period as could be located. I am told it is absolutely wonderful inside. It also has wonderful gardens which are open to the public in the summer.
Lots of fascinating information and some pictures on the website here. Be sure to check every page for the pictures.
Charles Dickens lived in Rochester, and this is the Satis House of Dickens "Great Expectations", the home of Miss Havisham.
