Fiesta 2009, Part 17, More Real Life. The last two "accidents" that I managed to catch. The statue incident was a very close thing. The cabe would have caught the statue on the neck. I don't know whether the statue would have toppled backwards, of continued on its way dragging the cable with it . And shorting out all lights in the process!

Fiesta 2009, Part 14 of a long series, Musicians. There were a lot of musicians, from the Municipal band to bands from other towns. Most of the musicians were very young. They all did really well, and were on duty from Thursday evening to Saturday night. The guys with the kettle drums were only in the final processions; they were GOOD! Since they were playing in a moving procession they had to work together - if the "puller" had moved too fast, the "player" would have missed the drum. Forgive me if I am slow replying to your comments, or in commenting on your blogs - family have arrived for a holiday and we are being kept very busy.

Fiesta 2009, Part 13 of a long series, Photographers. Photographers - just a small selection. Wherever you looked there were cameras - from mobile phones to the the sort shown above. But mainly they were pocket size cameras. Some of the time I found my pocket size Olympus (C70Z) more convenient to use than my Olympus DSLR (E410). The top picture and the one on the right show the same 3 people but at different pageants. They seemed to change some of their equipment, or even swap it around, and some of the time the lady in red wasn't taking photos at all, just holding lenses for the younger dark haired chap. The little girl in the bottom photo was about 5 or 6 years old. Forgive me if I do not reply today, or until very late. Family have arrived for a holiday and two grandchildren, 11 and 8, are keeping us all jumping. I will catch up when they go out for the day without us!

The picture top left shows the front and back views of some very exotic costumes. Note the footwear ! Of all the costumes, I think these blue ones were my favourite. I think I am too old to audition for a part next year.

Fiesta de San Antonio, Battles and the Christian Queen, part 9 of a long series There were battles on the beach and in the arena, lots of yelling and shouting, lots of coloured smoke, and everyone emerging from the chaos into one line to process to another area. We felt that it was all very well done.

But they were a very happy group. All the costumes, as you will see later, were very exotic, ornate and elaborate.

Fiesta de San Antonio, The Statue, part 6 of a long series This is the statue of Saint Anthony of Padua, which is mounted on this golden plinth, decorated with gold and glass candle lights and fresh flowers. It is carried through the streets during the processions, by a team of 22 bearers all dressed in black and white, although sometimes fewer manage to carry it. It is a spectacular sight at night, and still impressive during the day.
